In September/October 2024, WSA held its 75th members’ anniversary exhibition at Mayer Hall. A former art gallery with its high ceilings, skylights, original features and welcoming space, WSA will continue to grow its connection to the gallery going forward.
The hall has an impressive artistic history dating back to the late 1860s. Philanthropist and lover of arts and antiquities, Joseph Mayer opened Mayer Park and its neighbouring free library for the community. A decade later he added Mayer Hall which became a museum, art gallery and community space.
Securing funding (from The Ulrike Michal Foundation for the Arts), for a specialised hanging system has been WSA’s first successful bid to bring Mayer Hall back to a contemporary version of the gallery it was a century and a half ago.
Application for membership is open to practicing artists who live in Wirral and the neighbouring region. All submissions are viewed in confidence and acceptance requires the approval of the majority of the committee.
