Artist’s Statement

I am a self taught painter, starting to paint after a teaching career in Construction at local colleges. I paint mainly landscapes and coastal subjects, usually in Oil paint, which is applied quite thickly using pallete knives and brush work.
I am inspired by the idea of sky meeting land and sea, and the way that very often it is difficult to distinguish the difference. I have spent a lot of time sailing, mainly the coast of Wales and Ireland and hope that some of the feeling of the sea translates into my work. Even in my landscape painting a glimpse of the sea is never very far away!
