Artist’s statement
Artwork title: Winter coat in summer | Artwork media: mixed media | Artwork dimensions: 12cm x 12 cm x 10 cm
My work has two main themes, camouflage and how humans behave in the world. The artists I’m inspired by are Joseph Cornell, Nikki De Sant Phalle, Joseph Beuys and Goya. I studied at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art.
I’m a printmaker but my work has recently diversified into box constructions. They reference museum display cases and displays of taxidermy.
Winter coat in summer was inspired by a news story about hares finding that their natural molting was out of step with their surrounding environment due to climate change; making them more vulnerable to predators.
I’m currently working on a series where each box has a complementary print and both are designed to be displayed side by side to explain two parts of an animal’s life.
