Artist’s statement
Artwork title: The Visitor | Artwork media: collagraph print | Artwork dimensions: 230mm x 330mm
I love to draw in response to people and scenes I observe at home or on my travels. Sometimes immediately or maybe years later, visual ideas may spring to mind from this background of personal experience.
Then I reinvent and transfer the original image into print. In particular the process of making collagraphs is a playful and sometimes unpredictable way to explore an alternative world and suggest a hidden narrative. A collagraph plate is tricky to replicate so I never print editions, just a handful of each one. My work is bought in this country and abroad. I have been a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts since 2004 and was invited to join the Wirral Society of Arts in 2007. Recent exhibitions are The Storytellers with two other artists at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, a solo exhibition of Spanish prints at the Cervantes Institute, Manchester, regular open exhibitions including RBSA Print Biennial, Birmingham, Wrexham Print International and West Lancashire Open (highly recommended) and group exhibitions with WSA, Art from the Square, Liverpool and MAFA (Jubilee Exibition, Bury Art Gallery, prize for the best work of art).
