Artist’s statement

I have always been a keen walker and my main painting inspiration is therefore my love of the British countryside and coastal waters.
I work mainly in soft pastel on pastel card. The latter has a quality of “tooth” that allows considerable subtlety in manipulating the medium. This enables a high degree of colour blending as well as precision in rending any required detail. Pastel is a highly versatile medium which gives immediate “finished” colour being dry and retains its vibrancy as well as the best of wet media. Work is cold pressed to finish with a 2mm spacer behind double mounted conservation board for preservation.
