Artist’s statement
Artwork title: Andrea’s Favourites | Artwork media: Watercolour | Artwork dimensions: 610mm x 430mm
I started my professional career in art by taking an Art Foundation Course at Liverpool Polytechnic. This then led to obtaining a coveted place at Camberwell Art School, London, specialising in illustration whilst being able to hone my skills in fine art and graduated with BA(Hons) degree.
On leaving Camberwell I worked as freelance illustrator commissioned by the British Medical Journal (BMA) amongst others. After a few years I headed back to my home town of Liverpool where I completed a post graduate degree in teaching (PGCE) and have been Head of an Art department for over 20 years in a school for pupils with learning difficulties which are taken to GCSE level. I am proud to have been a member of the WSA for over 10 years and have exhibited in their annual exhibitions and also at Castle Park Arts Centre, Frodsham. Currently my website artyjohno.co.uk is a work in progress which is devised to sell originals and prints of my artwork. I can work with most mediums from watercolour to oils and from sculpting to creating beautiful works of art on human skin (tattoos), which is rapidly becoming an important aspect of my work outside of teaching.`
